Tynker Camp: Video Game Design

What You'll Do

Program and play your own video games in this fun-filled weeklong class (with a live instructor!). Learn coding fundamentals in Tynker as you create captivating games and experiences, complete with animated characters, engaging music, game logic and awesome details you design yourself. No prior coding experience required.

Start your gaming journey with an introduction to block coding, connecting Lego-like blocks of code and using them to solve adventure-themed puzzles. Explore frame-based animation and 2D motion, then BE VISIONARY to design and program an inventive obstacle course. Recreate video game classics and BE COURAGEOUS to make your own from scratch, building 2D worlds, designing custom characters and programming game controls, motion, music and logic. Create experiences two people can play at once and share your projects with your fellow gamers. Come away with a playful portfolio of games you can add to and innovate on long after class is over.

Kids will have ongoing access to their Tynker accounts so they can keep working on their projects after class.

Note: This weeklong class is more than just innovation-igniting projects—it’s an immersive experience full of delightful details, including interactive games, energizing music, snacks (see Additional Prep, below) and more! designed to build community, bolster confidence and deliver loads of camp-away-from-camp fun.

While we offer a similar class for older kids, the pacing and content of this class is carefully calibrated for rising 4th – 5th graders.
