Digital Designers: Virtual Reality

What You'll Do

Dream up and build out an original interactive adventure in this immersive weeklong class. Master the basics of virtual reality coding and creation in the world-building app CoSpaces as you invent, animate and engage with your own one-of-a-kind experience.

Start by honing your 3D modeling and drag-and-drop coding skills by creating a reality-bending practice sequence. Then BE VISIONARY to choose a subject for your adventure—dinosaurs, ghosts, kings and queens or anything else you can imagine—and plot out three interactive acts. Add environments, objects and characters, clicking “Play” at any time to experience your creation as if you were standing in it. BE COLLABORATIVE by offering up your in-progress adventure for user testing and applying feedback from your fellow world builders to ensure your finished product has a polished look, plenty of fun details and a clear arc from call to action to quest to resolution.

Note: This weeklong class is more than just innovation-igniting projects—it’s an immersive experience full of delightful details, including interactive games, silly traditions, snacks (see Materials, below) and dress-up days designed to build community, bolster confidence and deliver loads of camp-away-from-camp fun.

The curriculum includes an introduction to CoSpaces, 3D modeling and drag-and-drop coding. If you’ve taken our single-session Dream House or Chase Scene Coding classes, your child will be familiar with some of the first day’s activities—and have the chance to step up their skills before diving into the week’s project.

Enrollment includes a Pro subscription to CoSpaces virtual reality software (valid through April 2021), so kids can keep working on their interactive adventure—and other virtual creations—after class.

While we offer a similar class for younger kids, the pacing and content of this class is carefully calibrated for rising 6th – 8th graders.
