Code your own virtual robot in this wondrous weeklong class. Meet a friendly bot named Dash and make yourself at home in Dash’s Neighborhood, created by Wonder Workshop. Master coding basics as you bring Dash to life, teaching your programmable pal to speak, dance, race, react and more. No prior programming experience required.
Explore the drag-and-drop coding language Blockly and BE COURAGEOUS as you learn to create and sequence code that sends Dash driving to different parts of the neighborhood. Build on your skills by programming Dash to look around and light up on the go, then race from one end of the neighborhood to the other. Give Dash a distinctive personality as you code your robot to deliver greetings, make expressions, perform dances and react to different funny situations. BE VISIONARY to invent a story with Dash at the center, coupling your new virtual robotics know-how with plenty of imagination as you code it into reality.
Note: This weeklong class is more than just innovation-igniting projects—it’s an immersive experience full of delightful details, including interactive games, silly traditions, snacks (see Materials, below) and dress-up days designed to build community, bolster confidence and deliver loads of camp-away-from-camp fun.
Kids will have access to Dash’s Neighborhood for 90 days from their first day of class so they can keep coding and customizing Dash.
While we offer a similar class for younger kids, the pacing and content of this class is carefully calibrated for 2nd – 3rd graders.
* See your welcome email that will arrive after you register for material lists broken out by day.
Instructions for how to access Dash’s Neighborhood will be emailed to you before class. You’ll need them to log your child in before class each day (no installation necessary).
The last step in the Galileo Innovator’s Process is SHARE. Great learning can come from sharing successes and failures—to solidify your own experience as an innovator and to inspire others.
