What You'll Do

Investigate the beautiful balance of your favorite building bricks. Learn the ins and outs of symmetry, then take on a series of symmetrical challenges, from assembling equal-sided figures using a set number of bricks to constructing a harmonious, hole-in-the-middle creation to fashioning the widest shape possible. BE COURAGEOUS as you design, build and share the biggest symmetrical Lego structure you can imagine.

What You'll Need

Materials
  • 10+ handfuls of Lego bricks (or the whole box!)
  • 1 sheet of paper (8.5 x 11″ or larger), pen and tape (see Additional Prep, below)
Technology
  • Computer or tablet with speaker and camera
  • Internet access
  • Zoom application installed
    • Signed in with your child’s name
    • Unmuted (the instructor will manage class muting/unmuting)
Additional Prep
  • Use a pen to draw a straight line down the middle of the sheet of paper.
  • Tape the paper to your child’s work surface (table, floor, etc.) to serve as a center line for their symmetrical structures.

What You'll Take Away arrow

  • An understanding of symmetry
  • The skills to be courageous and freely share your designs
  • The ability to build a slew of symmetrical structures you can use in future creations
